Stilettos In Moscow

stilletto

Moscow streets are famous for their stiletto clad women, who make the sidewalks into their runways. Comfort is often discarded for beauty, and it’s not uncommon to see women wearing stilettos when the ground has disappeared underneath blankets of snow, or ice. The legend is that Russian woman are born with the skills necessary for walking gracefully in heels of all heights, regardless of the weather conditions. High heels are loved so much by the Russian woman that Moscow has been known to throw high heel races in the past. Can you imagine women lining up in their Louboutins to run anywhere between 50 to 100 meters, competitively for money? As for the race requirements heels can be no less than 3.54 inches in height. If you’re curious to see what this race looks like I included a fun video for you to watch.veronika-3380

Now if I were to run, I’d chose a pair that at least has a strap because they wouldn’t fall off your feet. After-all straps are like a pair of training wheels for women who are beginning to walk in heels. Sometimes I have wistful thoughts of my heels that are no longer with me (I exhausted them to the point of ruin), they had delicate, gold leather straps that wound up the ankle, made in Brazil, the heel was made of cork- but they were not ‘chunky’. I could walk miles in them and my feet never suffered as much as they do now in some of the pairs I own. Anyways enjoy the funny video! It made me laugh πŸ˜›

So the Russian women’s love for heels can seem unsettling when you see them stabbing the snow with these heels, but universally we all do something at some point where we sacrifice comfort for beauty.

Sorry it’s been so long since my last post !! I’ll be posting more soon!

      1. I hope she’s okay too, and that they at least had a first aid booth nearby.

Haha, I probably would enter- I’m used to exercising in heels so I think that would help me in the race, right? lol πŸ˜› (And you do get to win money for a shopping spree)

        What about you?

  1. Wow, they run so fast!
I admire the girls from Easter-Europe for looking so incredible comfortable in heels – I do believe the legend is right! And though heels aren’t the most comfortable shoes ever, well, they do give you a good feeling, I like them very much πŸ™‚ (when they are at least a bit comfortable, that is)
(What a funny coincidence by the way, my last post is on heels as well πŸ˜€ )

    1. I enjoyed your post on your heels, plus I remember you sent me their link on the S.oliver site!
In a way you had me thinking about Russian women in heels when you mentioned how your heels have Euro/Russian elements, and then here came this post. (you gave me inspiration)

You know some heels can be comfortable, but they are hard to find…I still cry over my BCBG cork heels with their gold leather straps (for cork heels they were very delicate), 3 inches at least..with a platform. They hardly let me down when walking in them for hours, sadly I over-wore them.

      1. Oh my, I gave you inspiration, that makes my day πŸ˜€

Maybe one day you will find a pair as comfortable as they were! I can imagine that cork heels are really comfortable for heels – but I hope for you that one day, you will find another pair you can wear for days and days πŸ™‚

  2. Loved this. Thanks for posting, Z. hilarious and gorgeous at the same time. Legendary, indeed. I think we all have heels on the brain…i just posted about boots! We are perhaps in denial of winter’s arrival. I think it was just yesterday I was saying, Sandal Season!

    1. I wish I could still be having thoughts of summer, but the wind chill where I am has snapped me into winter’s reality :P.
(At least we can pull out our boots with heels as a compromise for the seasons turn)
I’m happy you liked this, I thought it would be entertaining as well as show off the Russian woman’s love for heels…and this race..haha
As for heels on the brain, I agree!!
I guess you must really be missing summer if you’re already thinking of Sandal Season πŸ˜›
