Tina Fey’s Golden Globes Dress by Russian Fashion Designer Ulyana Sergeenko

Some of you may be familiar with the beginnings of the Zaychishka blog, and how often I reported on the Russian fashion elite, to collections made by Russian Fashion Designers. One name some of you may recognize is Ulyana Sergeenko, who has been featured on this blog over the years along with Miroslava Duma, Elena Perminova, Vika Gazinskaya and Anya Ziourova. This stylish quintet of women was often referred to as the Russian Mafia, or the Russian ‘it’ girls for their incredible sense of style. Ulyana was known back then for her love of the vintage style, and every fashion week she would serve us looks that would take us on a journey back in time. When Ulyana opened her label in April of 2011 in Moscow Russia, it came as no surprise to see her base her collections on her own personal style, and passion for antiques and vintage themes. Ulyana’s label has been gaining a North American clientele, including celebrities from Beyonce to Kim Kardashian.

Now last night was the Golden Globes, where we get to look at outfit choices while seeing deserving actors win awards for their accomplishments, including the late Chadwick Boseman for winning Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion picture. But one notable outfit choice that we saw was from Tina Fey who was wearing a dress from Ulyana Sergeenko’s demi-couture Fall- Winter 2020-2021 collection. Tina Fey looked beautiful in the robe-style midi dress that featured a V-neck collar, and long cuffed sleeves. I will mention that every time I see celebrities wearing unexpected designers, I get a little excited, but even more so when it is a Russian Fashion Designer. For Ulyana’s FW collection we saw her work with silk, wool, chantilly lace and the inclusion of florals. However, the dress worn by Tina Fey was made of velvet-viscose and black satin that was enhanced by floral print that covered both the front and back of the dress. The front of the dress also featured black sequins and lace details. To complete the look Tina Fey wore black leather boots (which was the exact look Ulyana put her model in as seen on her website). I will say I am a little jealous of Tina Fey because it is one of my fashion goals to buy something from one of Russia’s prominent and well-known couture designers. One day, until then I will continue to daydream.

Every season I look forward to Ulyana’s collections because they are often a nod to her Russian heritage. As a designer, her brand is consistent but never boring, and she often sources fabric from Italy, France and Japan while handcrafting each piece- whether through stitching, knitting or embroidery that is rooted in Russian folk-dress.

      1. Awh, you’re so sweet, that’s why this blog was first created with Russian fashion in mind..it’s not often something we see..unless we are specifically searching for it. 💕
