Honest Thoughts: H&M Sucks

Hey Everyone! It’s time for another Honest Thoughts post since my last one about Caroline Stanbury being my favourite Bitch grabbed your attention. Now before any of you scowl and tell me that I’m being bitchy, hateful, negative etc towards H&M lovers, let me just say that I have a love and hate relationship with H&M. It’s true that I own items from the infamous clothing chain that I absolutely love, and I often frequent the local H&Ms in my area. But guess what H&M just like any store that has mass produced clothing, sucks. I’m not telling you to avoid H&M, that’s far from the truth, however I do want you to be smarter shoppers from time to time..it’s my new initiative as a Fashion Blogger for 2016.

How To Fix Broken Beauty Products

Hey everyone! This is a short & sweet post that includes a few beauty hacks that could help you out! I was reading through H&M life under the beauty section and came across beauty hacks that can fix your makeup products. I know I’ve dropped my blush and powders more times than I can count, and I thought these tips featured on H&M Life could be useful to you- if you’ve got powder/blush broken into what seems like billions of pieces, or your lipstick is cracked in half, or maybe your nail polish is being stubborn and won’t open! (like using a lighter to fuse the lipstick back together, or placing nail polish into a bowl of water)

Deconstructed Beauty

There was a morning when the word deconstructed popped into my mind, followed by the word beauty. I wasn’t aware of Jacques Derrida’s work of Grammatology (1967) that introduced the ideas of deconstruction. And I certainly wasn’t aware that deconstruction could be used to describe a critical outlook between text and meaning. In that moment, in the morning I was only thinking of two words that flowed into larger thoughts, with images of an alleyway, coldness, walls with rust, texture, and of graffiti.

Pussy Bows & Burgundy

There are so many trends each season, and this winter there’s no exception. I’m sure some of you have noticed that the Pussy Bow blouse has been a staple since fall. (ahh I hate that name!!) But you’ll also notice there’s a lot of elements in the Pussy Bow blouse this time around that draws from the 80’s, sans shoulder pads. Everyone from Miroslava Duma to Olivia Palermo have been pulling off the look. What makes this blouse so appealing, (& it’s definitely not the name choice) is the soft, and ethereal romantic feel it can have. I love the look of satin or silk with the bow style, and I really favour the type of blouse that has a loose fitted neckline, Like Mira Duma’s in the image below. That being said, I also came up with a look of my own that uses a lot of Burgundy, And as promised this is one of the Holiday inspired looks I came up with. I think this look would work best for an interview, or if …

Irina Shayk Romping’ Around

Privet Matryoshkas, happy Casual Sunday! I’m excited about this post because it involves a romper and Irina Shayk. You see the romper that’s on Irina shayk as she tries to hail a cab in New York, is a romper that looks similar to a romper I own (from H&M by L.O.G.G- which is also featured in this post if you want a look similar to Irina’s), and wear every chance I get. This romper exudes comfort, beachy vibes, and suits my skin tone making it my HG of outfits for the summer. I also must confess that I have a romper obsession at the moment and I’ve already bought 4 this summer ranging from Dressy (for dining out), to Casual (perfect for Casual Sundays). I love wearing these out for casual, thoughtless style days..you know when you don’t really feel like putting an outfit together, and you don’t want to wear a dress, and you’re in no mood for playing mix and match with a two piece outfit. A romper is the third possible solution that can solve …

Airport Fashion Is Apparently A Big Thing

I always remember counting down the weeks, days and hours before my flight is due to take off- I’m often prepared up to a month in advance because that’s just how anxious & over-eager I can be. That’s right my luggage is packed to the brim with all of the clothing I’ve deemed worthy enough to come along, but I won’t lie I often pick pieces I want to wear, but will not cry over if my luggage gets lost in the jumble of connecting flights. Who else gets like this? I hope i’m not the only one. Anyways I was flipping through the free magazine H&M puts out for the new season- this one is for summer, and I had some fun reading the well crafted articles; one stood out in particular with-3-4 pages dedicated to ‘Airport Fashion’. Airport Fashion is apparently a big thing, gaining popularity in 2011, and taking China and Korea by storm like that K-pop craze.

Loving H&M On Elena Perminova

Elena Perminova’s rocking another look that’s all H&M’D. If I were to see those pants still hanging on the rack I’d probably bypass them, but seeing them on Elena puts a new life into them- I can see the appeal. I’m also thinking these have to be the pants from when Isabel Marant did a lovely collaboration with H&M many, many, months ago. And I’m pretty sure Elena also has the white version of these pants. Love this look it’s easier to pull off than some of the elaborate outfits the Russian mafia saunters in from time to time.

Vika Gazinskaya’s Collaboration With “& Other Stories”

Vika Gazinskaya is up to something exciting! The Russian it girl and Fashion Designer is collaborating with the Swedish brand “& Other stories”. A brand that was first launched in March 2013, and is owned by the H&M group. Vika’s collaboration is full of multi-coloured polka-dot print on neutral canvases, scribble print; + Vika’s trademark for using volumes and natural fabrics like silks, cotton and linens are being included. The SS 2014 capsule collection will have accessories like shoes and scarves, and of course there will be dresses, blouses, pants and trenches to pair them with. The collection is fun, feminine, cheerful and a little bit child-like. Enjoy.
